Chris Mancini Federal White Collar Defense Attorney

Counsel to Watson & Associates, LLC: Chris Mancini brings 45 years of legal experience to Watson & Associates, to support the firm’s afederal white collar defense attorney services, including eight years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida (DOJ) where he served as Deputy Chief of both the Criminal Division and Civil Division. His federal prosecution background, combined with his experience as a Wisconsin State Public Defender, provides clients with representation from an attorney who has worked on both sides of the federal criminal justice system.

Department of Justice Experience

From 1979 to 1987, Mancini served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, Southern District of Florida. As Deputy Chief of Major Crimes and Environmental Task Force, he supervised 30 attorneys handling money laundering, white collar fraud, and major federal felonies. He received Merit Awards and Certificates of Achievement from the Department of Justice and its federal client agencies.

Before his federal prosecutor role, Mancini worked as a Law Clerk in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Wisconsin, where he conducted trials of petty offenses, performed legal research, and investigated racially discriminatory practices by Wisconsin institutions.

 

Federal Law Enforcement Training

Mancini has served as a Criminal Justice Instructor at the Miami-Dade Police Academy and at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). This teaching experience demonstrates his expertise in federal criminal law and procedure, and his understanding of how federal agents conduct investigations.

Professional Experience

1979-1987: Assistant U.S. Attorney

U.S. Department of Justice, Southern District of Florida. Deputy Chief of Major Crimes and Environmental Task Force with supervisory and trial responsibility for 30 subordinate attorneys in white collar cases such as money laundering, white collar fraud defense, major felonies, and misdemeanors under U.S. Department of Justice jurisdiction.

1979-1981: Associate Attorney: Civil litigation, including a fifteen million dollar securities fraud case: Gory v. E.F. Hutton and Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, et al.

1977-1979: Assistant State Public Defender: Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. White collar defense trials of felony and misdemeanor cases and appellate work. Maintained evidentiary research files for attorneys in the trial division.

He is the author of three books: “Pirates in Blue: The True Story of The Miami River Cops,” “Deliberate Indifference,” and “The Hawthorne Files.” He also wrote, directed, and produced “The Poison Garden,” which has received 18 awards for Best Documentary and Best Social Justice Film at film festivals throughout the United States in 2023-2024.
